Beyond the Experiment

Resources for implementing Milkweed Bug learning into other subjects are listed below! These lessons have not been tested and are merely ideas for furthering learning.

This is a fun arts and crafts activity that students can use at home to reinforce learning about the Milkweed Bug life cycle.

Link to a PowerPoint with Milkweed Bug themed stretches and exercises. Great to use as a break during the 3rd grade Milkweed Bug Experiment for lesson 2.1 and 2.2.

Milkweed Plants take 10 days to germinate. You can use this experiment to teach the importance of sunlight and water in photosynthesis. It would be interesting to dive deeper into the structure of plants through observation of these plants. This experiment ties in nicely with learning about photosynthesis.

Listed below are two picture books appropriate for third graders to accompany learning about insects and their life cycles. These books would be best read during week two of the Milkweed Bug Experiment.
